Favorite Vampire Shows.

I love movies. I watch them all. Buuuut the ones I favor most happen to have fangs in them. Let’s see…

My Fave Vampire Movies:

Interview With the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)

–Anne Rice’s story come to life. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. ‘Nuff said.

True Blood
(2008-present)
–Love the eye-candy. Strays from Charlaine Harris’s books, but good nonetheless.

Van Helsing
(2004)
–This was the first DVD I owned. Very underrated. Most vampire movies are.

Blade (1998) and Blade II (2002)

–Action, baby! A bit corny at times, but I can dig it. Sorry, Blade: Trinity (2004) just didn’t work for me. I never could buy Dominic Purcell as Drake.

The Vampire Diaries (2009-present)

–Excellent writing. Just wished it wasn’t centered around teenagers in high school. But hey–that’s what True Blood is for.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula
(1992)
–Good mix of romance and horror.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)

–Was the best show on television at the time. Angel and SPIIIIIKE!!!

Honorable Mentions:

Fright Night (1985)
–First time I watched, I was young and alone at four am. Scared to death. Watched it again years later in broad daylight and laughed. Anywho…I’ve been hooked to vampire tales ever since. BTW, if you’re going to check out Fright Night (2011), be sure to catch it in 3D!

Forever Knight (1989-1996)
–Best thing on television at THAT time. I was hooked. Hell, I’m going to put them in my Netflix queue and watch the series again really soon.

Moonlight
(2007-2008)
–So pissed when they canceled this show mid-season. It should have been revived after the writers’ strike. Alex O’loughlin was reason enough to continue it. At least The Gates (2010) got a full season.

Why Underworld (2003) did not make the list:

The vampires seem to be a bit weak while the lycans are so strong. Underworld: Evolution (2006) was the same way. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) was best, but it would fit better on another list…say, one featuring werewolves.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind vampires losing a battle like in Van Helsing. I just expect them to be strong and feared and dominant  throughout until the end. Hence, why the Twilight (2008) movies did not make this list after making my fave vampire book list.

Fingers crossed for Underworld: Awakening (2012)!

What Do I Read?

This list will give you an idea of where I got inspiration for some of the craziness I wrote in SLEEPY WILLOW’S BONDED SOUL.

J.R. Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood Series
–I love the fast-pace writing style, Alpha males, explicit language and sex scenes.

Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse Novels
–I love the cornucopia of supernatural beings and the mystery element.

Laurell K. Hamilton Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series
–I love the kick-ass nature of the female lead, her harem, and that the series has sustained through 20 novels.

Anne Rice The Vampire Chronicles
–I love the action with unapologetic violence and blood shed.

Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunter Series
–I love the historical tie-ins and the sweet romance.

Stephenie Meyer Twilight Series
–I love the suspense, the tension, and that these books are thick (ranging from 500-800+ pgs).

While these books are not perfect–what is?–they have been entertaining reads that I would recommend to anyone who wants to escape into the paranormal for a while. This is not the complete list of vampire novels I’ve read, but these have made the most impact on me.
