Today is My #BookRelease Day and I’m STOKED…

swrs-release-day-blog-post…for now.

I have to ride this natural high for as long as possible… before the dreaded depression sets in.

You: Huh? Depression? What are you talking about, Dicey?

Me: It’s true. I work hard to write original stories, to convey my innermost demons in such a way that they can be understood and entertaining. I put in countless hours, writing when most of the world is asleep. Sometimes, I neglect other duties for the sake of focusing on my passion. I immerse myself in my characters and their worlds, and I make sure I’ve edited it well.

So when I’m done writing a story from beginning to end, I’m super excited. Over the fucking moon, excited. I’m on top of the world, because I KNOW I’m a bonafide #badass. You know it too, because you’ll congratulate me. You’ll tell me how much I inspire you. You’ll ask for my assistance in writing your own book and getting it out to the public. And an even smaller number of you, who actually read my books, will buy it immediately. You want to not only support me as an artist, but you want to enjoy my latest work.

Thank you! I love you.

What you don’t know is that a day or so later, after my book is out, my feeling of accomplishment dies. I need to do something else to make up for my feelings of failure. Yes. Within days after achieving something so remarkable, I feel like a failure. Believe me–I know that’s ridiculous, but it’s the truth.

You: Dicey, how is this possible?

Me: Because you don’t see how bad I want it. IT. Success. How badly I want to be recognized for my work. How badly I want to be appreciated. How badly I want to NOT be mediocre. I don’t want to just sell a few books and get a handful of reviews. I want the WORLD to read my filth and have an opinion about it, good or bad. I want my books to be discussed, and for “Dicey Grenor” to be a well-known author name like so many others that don’t have anything more special to contribute to the literary world than I do. I think my work is up to par. What I don’t have is the wide net that others do, and that bothers me. It does.

I swear to god, I am working so hard at staying positive. My husband will tell you all the things I go through that YOU don’t see. Focusing on those of you who share my work and show appreciation is difficult, because I’m OCD enough to see the ones who aren’t and won’t. The ones who have their hands out aaallll the time asking what I can do for them, and won’t bother to support me. I SEE THEM. I see the ones who I’ve supported through the years and how they ignore my achievements, MY requests for support. And I’m trying my damnedest not to. I want to ignore them and see YOU, my supporters. Okay? I’m working on that. If I get it right this time, maybe I can avoid the depression stage. I want that for myself. I deserve it.

You don’t know how bad I want to ignore that some folks in my feed shared Rachel Dolezal’s book in mockery of her being a white woman capitalizing off the black experience, while I, as a black female writer, can’t get them to share a link about my book not even once. They won’t like my FB author page. Won’t like an IG post. Nothing. But they shared her book. They don’t even realize they gave her publicity and perpetuated the very thing they want to extinguish. But it’s okay. I had some pretty supportive friends, who did not share her book, but made sure I had a voice today. While you’re out screaming “fight the power” and doing nothing to help black artists, I’m doing my best to focus on the folks who actually support this marginalized writer. It’s hard, but I’m going to try harder.

With that in mind, here’s some good news: I had 60 people give me permission to tag their FB pages with my book promo today–YAY! That’s progress from the blip in the social mediasphere I’ve made in the past. I reached out to two authors privately that I’ve supported in the past and haven’t chatted with in a while, and one agreed to help. That’s progress. I got some retweets on Twitter and some faves on IG. That’s all progress.

Each of you who showed your support for my T E N T H book release today (SLEEPY WILLOW’S REDEEMED SOUL, The Narcoleptic Vampire Series Vol. 4), my first in two years, have my heartfelt gratitude. I hope you and some of your friends will gSleepyWillow'sBondedSoul.Ebookive my books a chance. I’m going to keep doing what I love. I’m going to keep trying to stay positive about it. I hope you’ll be part of this process, but that’s your choice. I’ll tell you what though–if you’re not, don’t come looking for my help later. Deal?

If you’re new to my books, and want to start at the beginning of my erotic urban fantasy series, I’d be happy to have you as part of my fandom. This is SLEEPY WILLOW’S BONDED SOUL (The Narcoleptic Vampire Series Vol. 1).

If you’re feeling particularly inspired to support me, this is The Narcoleptic Vampire Series box set of the first five books in the series:

Dicey Updates: Comic Cons, New Covers, New Audiobook, New Poster.

Update #1: If you’re in the Houston area, stop by Space City Comic Con May 27-29th (this Friday through Sunday) and geek out with me at booth AA-258. This will be my first 2016 4 x 6 flyerappearance at this con, hopefully, not the last. I’m looking forward to taking lots of photos, hanging out with old and new fans, discussing my favorite shows, movies, games, and books, and debuting my new comic posters. Angel Comics artist, Rod Thornton, did a fabulous job bringing some of my characters from THE NARCOLEPTIC VAMPIRE SERIES to “life”. You can see his artwork on my new flyer to the left.

Space City Comic Con will also be an opportunity to meet some of the actors from one of my favorite shows: Sons of Anarchy. I talked about how much I loved it back in 2012 here. As you can see, I survived the show ending in 2014, though it was hard to let go. *sniff* I’m planning to take the SoA poster off my wall and get the cast to autograph it. That should lift my spirits. *fingers crossed*

Update #2: I’ll also be at Comicpalooza for the 4th year straight, June 17-19th. I reaaally enjoy my time there every year. I’ll be in good company with Norman Reedus, Kate Beckinsale, Carl Weathers, and other favorite stars. *Reminding myself to take the 10 Sherrilyn Kenyon books off my shelf to see if she’ll sign them when I see her.* I’ll provide my booth assignment and panel info later. Just know, I will be on 4 panels this year, moderating 2.2015-203 HANDOVER Ebook

Update #3: My first novel SHAMEFUL (taboo) has been converted to my first audiobook, and has already received 2 reviews. Give it a listen and leave yours. It’s available on Audible, iTunes, and Amazon.

This is probably a good time to mention that SHAMEFUL has a new book cover as well. ‘Cause when you know better, you do better.

Hope you like it. 😉

Okay…what’s next?

Update #4: I have a new book cover for SLEEPY WILLOW’S BONDED SOUL (The Narcoleptic Vampire Series Vol. 1).

SleepyWillow'sBondedSoul.EbookYes, the book that started all my gory, sexy creatures-of-the-night drama needed an update as well. So here’s the 5th and hopefully, FINAL cover for this book.

Ahhhh yeaahhh. My cover model, Jaies Baptiste; photographer, Tim Rogers; and designer Najla Qamber hooked that ish up. Contact them for bookings. They are each good, fun, professional people to work with.

Are you tired of my updates yet?

No?

Update #5: Here’s the cover for SLEEPY WILLOW’S REDEEMED SOUL (The Narcoleptic Vampire Series Vol. 4).

When I first posted it on my FB page, I got a private message from someone cussing me out about the book not being ready yet. *pouty lip* I’m so sorry. I’m trying. I only want to give you my best, and I don’t have my best ready yet. The whole novel is not ready for release yet BUUUUTTTTTT I plan to reveal a teaser for the book within the next few days. Can we call that a compromise? Thanks for your patience and support, beauties. And thanks for following my blog and keeping up with my updates. Love you.

#Shifted #Anthology #99c #Preorder

I haven’t posted here since November of last year. If that’s not indicative of how crazy busy I’ve been in the last few months, I don’t know what is. But hey–I miss the two of you who read my blog. I do. *kissy face*

So what has brought me out of hiatus? Well, some of my work will be featured in upcoming anthologies. Yeah…I know. I came back to promote something. That’s lame. 😦 Forgive me. But if I don’t hold my end up with the other authors in these anthologies, they are going to skin me alive. You understand, right? I have to do my part. So here goes the 4-1-1 on the first one:

I am 1 of 10 authors participating in Shifted, an anthology of 10 hot shifter stories. It’s available for Pre-Order, and it’s just $.99!

I finally hunkered down and released my 8th book: BEST FRIENDS, FANTASY LOVERS.

SynopsisFriendship has never been so tempting…

Tommy and Capri have different backgrounds, goals, and motivations.

He’s an Irish guitarist in a new band with dreams of being a rock star, and not one serious bone in his body outside of playing music.

She’s an American valedictorian, who takes her responsibilities seriously, and dreams of being at the top of her profession.

Despite Tommy and Capri’s initial attraction to each other, both know a relationship is doomed from the start. In lieu of romance, they become best friends who share everything, including their ambition to succeed, their desire to make each other laugh, even their hidden secrets and darkest fantasies. When they begin to act out their fantasies with each other, non-platonic feelings start to creep in, and they must decide whether their friendship can survive what neither of them wants–being in love.

Although I hate spoiling surprises within my stories, giving teasers is a necessary evil. So…

THE IS AN EXCERPT FROM MY EROTIC ROMANCE NOVEL, INTENDED FOR ADULTS ONLY! BEWARE THE RAUNCHY LANGUAGE.

**********************************************************************************

Someone bumped his arm with a cold beer bottle, startling him from his reverie.

“Aren’t you that cool rocker dude from that cool rock band?” Spirit said in falsetto, mimicking a chick trying to get Tommy’s attention.

“Twat!” Tommy said as he wiped the condensation from the bottle off his arm. “Don’t sneak up on me like that. I almost shat myself.”

Spirit sat in a chair next to Tommy. “You going to sit back here and stare at her all night?”

“Stare at whom? I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, mate.” Tommy chugged the rest of his whiskey and held the glass up to get the barmaid’s attention. “In case you haven’t noticed, there are two dicks on the stage. Hardly my type. It’ll take more to win me over than shaving your legs.”

“Or maybe they need curlier hair and darker eyes.”

Tommy thanked the waiter for bringing over another full glass. He ignored Spirit.

“And maybe their names should begin with a C.”

“We’re not in high school, Spirit. You got something to say, just spit it out.”

“I know you think your silly sunglasses are hiding your eyes, but…let’s just say, I’m surprised Capri hasn’t fallen out from the hole you’re staring in the back of her head.”

“If you can see my eyes so bloody well, or knew anything about me, you’d know I wouldn’t be staring at the back of her head. My eyes would be glued to that fat arse in that short, tight dress.”

“Lord Almighty. Her ass in that dress.” Spirit smacked his lips. “But no. You wouldn’t be focusing on an ass you’re so familiar with. Besides, you see ass every day. Everywhere. It’s the woman with the ass. The one onstage being used as a prop by the handsome stripper.”

At that moment, Mr. Buffoon flipped Capri out of the chair, where she sat onstage, onto his face with her legs straddling him. Tommy felt like visiting the toilet. He stood and chugged back his glass. “I’ll be back.”

“Yeah, all right, man,” Spirit laughed. “Or…you could go snatch your woman off that stage and tell her how you feel.”

Whatever. “You’re high, and I’m not high enough for this rubbish.”

He signed an autograph on the way to the toilet, then stood at the urinal for sixty seconds or so before actually taking a whizz. He rocked his head from side-to-side to work through some kinks and emptied his bladder. Capri stunned him when she hopped up on the sink counter next to him as he washed his hands. “Stripperman done licking your cunt?”

“Asshole,” she laughed. “I asked Spirit where you’d gone. His girlfriend’s cute. Want some?” She held out a joint.

He shook his head then changed his mind. He dried his hands and held one out for a turn at the joint. “Sure. Why not?”

She lit it, inhaled and passed. “We have to do something to liven this shithole up.”

“Thought you were enjoying yourself.”

“I’m trying to make sure Sasha enjoys herself. None of this is for us. It’s for the bride and groom.”

Good point. He puffed and passed, leaning against the sink. She inhaled deeply and leaned toward his mouth to shotgun him. He caressed the side of her cheek and tilted toward her mouth. Their lips didn’t touch, but he sucked in all the smoke into his lungs as if he were sucking sweet nectar from her tongue. The boner couldn’t be helped. It would go away. He leaned away and braced himself against the wall. She grabbed the lapels of his shirt and brought him back in her line of vision. She inhaled and brought her lips close to his to share her exhale. He sucked it all in again, staring into the eyes of the girl he was going to fuck tonight.

They both knew the inevitable was going to happen.

Shite.

He bit his lip and pulled her face close to his. He had to have her. Fuck that other bullshite.

She resisted the pull all the way to his lips and put the joint between hers again. When she spoke, smoke blew in his face. “Confession…”

He waited, staring at her lips. He needed to suck them.

“I think we should just do it. Just once. Just to say we did it. Go ahead and get it out of the way, you know? It doesn’t have to change anything, if we don’t let it.”

He could pretend he didn’t know what it was or… “Confession…”

Her eyebrows rose.

“More than anything, I really want to know what it feels like to be inside you.”

She gulped. She puffed. She exhaled. She smiled. “Confession… I’d really love to see your cumface.” She slid over to the edge of the sink, letting her skirt rise.

He stared at what she exposed then moved to stand between her legs, slowly, inching closer to the warmth at the apex of her thighs. Holding onto her hips and angling them downwards toward his erection, he pulled her until she fit snugly. It nearly undid him. Her breathing became just as arduous as his. He found solace in heading towards destruction along with her so neither could blame the other.

“You like shagging near toilets, apparently,” he whispered because he didn’t trust his voice.

“I’ve never fucked in a limo.”

“I haven’t fucked in this limo,” he smirked. “Let’s go.”

Zeek’s Loving Thorn (A Novella of The Narcoleptic Vampire Series)…

…is available now on Amazon Kindle.

Cover - ZEEKShe’s an intersexed, newly turned vampire.
He’s a human, who was left behind.
Together, they learn how to love each other…
and survive in the final days.

RATED HARDCORE for violence, sex, and profanity.<–If you’re a fan of Dicey’s work, you already know that.

Here’s a teaser:

“So, what’s your name?”

His dick jumped at the sound of her voice. Zeeeeek. He was definitely in Hell. Of course, the beautiful vampire was here to torture him with unsatisfied lust throughout eternity. How appropriate. He had been a womanizer before the Rapture, now he’d beg for release between her long legs and never get it. Then he remembered their epic exodus from the storage window. Zeek had run with him on her back, even though they had been surrounded and outnumbered, with the sun rising. He was still alive because of her. She had risked herself for him. He didn’t know what to say. So he asked a dumb question. “How did you know I was awake?”
